Where have overnight oats been all my life?! And how am I just now discovering them?! These banana chocolate chip overnight oats are literally the BEST breakfast ever! Okay, so maybe they don’t beat out cinnamon rolls, but for a healthy option, these things are in a league of their own! If you’re like me and have never heard of this unreal breakfast until now, or you’ve seen them around but haven’t ever given them a shot, or maybe you’re an overnight oats junkie looking for another option, you HAVE to try them out!
All Things Oatmeal
If you’ve been following along, you may have noticed I’m beginning to start an obsession with oatmeal! Never in a million years did I think this would happen, but it’s true. It all started with some steel cut oats, brown sugar, and apples. I made my first batch of crock-pot oatmeal and fell in love (you can read a bit more about it here and look out for a separate post soon!). After that, I stumbled upon the world’s greatest snack, and I still stand by that! Oatmeal peanut butter energy bites will forever be my favorite, healthy, on-the-go option. And now, I’ve found another oatmeal gem – overnight oats!
Overnight oats are literally SO popular! Just check out Pinterest and you’ll see what I mean! So how have I not tried these before? Maybe I overlooked them when I wasn’t such a fan of oatmeal… or maybe I thought “eww gross, cold oatmeal”… whatever the case may be, I have found them now and I’m never going back!
How to Make Them!
So what do you do? It’s pretty simple really, which is my kind of recipe! Not too many ingredients, not too many steps, but deliciousness at the end! The first thing you want to do is gather your ingredients and a container with a lid.
To be honest, so many other recipes will recommend using cute jars like I have in these photos, but I typically use a simple glass Pyrex bowl with a lid :). It doesn’t matter what you put your oats in, as long as there’s enough room! I just figured the jar would look better in photos (and it does, trust me!).
All you need to do now is add each ingredient to your container and then add your milk. And no, I don’t always make it look pretty with the layers 🙂 I like to add an extra splash of milk because I prefer my oats to have more liquid, but it’s up to you. Mix it all up, throw it in the refrigerator overnight and you’re good to go! I told you it was easy!
In the morning, pull out your oats and top with whatever you’d like! Of course I add a few more slices of banana and chocolate chips, because chocolate for breakfast just makes your whole day better!
The Best Part?
What’s so amazing about overnight oats though, is that the options are essentially endless! You can mix this up in so many different ways! I use skim milk, but you can use almond, or maybe even add some Greek yogurt. Try it with different fruits, or without the chia seeds (I know how those little fellas get stuck in your teeth!), or maybe try warming it up before eating! Like I said, ENDLESS!
